Bill Smith is running for City council because he cares about the City he grew up, knows and lives in. He feels a need to improve the quality of business within the City. He proposes improvement in quality of business in Harrisville by going to UDOT and get the agreement changed to allow more access to SR89 or at least look into how this was accomplished.

Harrisville Splash Pad

Fun in the sun for all

As the summer days come to a close, it’s always fun to look back at the activities we were able to enjoy. Several of these probably included getting wet in order to stay cool, especially since it was a very hot and dry summer. But let’s face it; water parks are not the cheapest places to go to, especially if you have a large family. So what’s the alternative? Splash pads of course. And with one located in Harrisville everyone can have the opportunity to cool off, without having to spend an arm and a leg.

ESSAY EXCERPTS

Graduating students from Weber and Fremont High Schools in the Weber School District were offered modest scholarships of $300 each by the American Spirit Project Committee. They wrote essays on the subject –“How is American Spirit Related to America’s Greatness?” Two scholarships were awarded at Scholarship Awards Assemblies in May of 2013.

Following are some excerpts from their essays.

Jeff Pearce Harrisville City Council

I have worked with the Harrisville Planning Commission for almost 6 years. We have a growing problem in our City of wasteful spending and then passing the buck onto residents by increasing property taxes.

I understand the need to grow the business tax revenue by enticing retailers to come to our city. It is possible to bring enough business tax revenue into our City so that residents aren’t burdened by property tax increases. It is also possible to grow businesses in the already zoned commercial property spaces without affecting our agricultural areas.

Jeffery C. Lemberes Running For Harrisville City Counsil

Jeffery Lemberes

Hello, My name is Jeffrey C. Lemberes and I am running for Harrisville City Council. As seen in these tough economic times we are in need of a leader who can handle the stress of the job along with figure out the right things to do. Last week Harrisville had a meeting where a lot of citizens showed up and voiced their opinion. The Council and Mayor seemed to be very stressed and unorganized and had to ask the City Manager Bill how to do everything. My wife was very upset about the tax %100 increase and told the council that she felt it was or did not APPEAR to be above boards.
