6-26*2018 - Reaching and listening across the divide

When 18 Leverett, Mass. residents launched their grassroots effort just after the 2016 election, they were struggling to understand how the political opposites of their town — where Donald Trump had gotten just 14.5 percent of the vote — could have chosen him for president.

Red Cross urges donors to fill Missing Types to prevent summer blood shortage

These letters represent blood types, and the reality is that during blood shortages these letters do go missing from hospital shelves. 6*26*2018 - Get Sugary Drinks Out of Hospitals

Imagine you're going into surgery.

You're under strict doctor's orders to avoid solids. But you're drinking plenty of clear liquids like juice, Gatorade, and Sprite before the surgery. And you're looking forward to the "protein shake" that the nurses have promised as a meal replacement after the procedure.

Then you realize that you're on track to consume 30 teaspoons of sugar. The World Health Organization recommends no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar, per day, for healthy people.

6*25*2018 Vlad’s man in the White House

OK, if you are the brutal authoritarian ruler of Russia and you want more global power, what is your fantasy about your enemies in the US, Canada, and the European Union?

First, of course, that they fight amongst each other. Check.

Two, that the most powerful one, the US, has a ruler who looks up to you and is envious of your raw power to command obedience. Check.

Three, that the US becomes as corrupt as Russia. Check.

6*24*2018 - Dave Says column

Dear Dave,

I make about $240,000 annually, and I will be maxing out my 401(k) contributions this year. I have $60,000 in student loan debt I’m trying to pay off, a small amount left on my home mortgage, plus I’ve been investing in a lot of gold and silver. Those investments are worth about $30,000 right now. In addition to this, I’ve got $10,000 in cash just sitting in a savings account for emergencies. Should I stop the gold and silver investing, and focus on paying off the loans, or keep splitting my money between them?

Adam
