Stocking 250,000 salmon

On Thursday, streams of water will carry 250,000 kokanee salmon—two to three inches long—out of stocking trucks and into the blue water at Jordanelle Reservoir. Stocking a quarter of a million fish is another step in turning Jordanelle into an amazing fishery. In addition to kokanee salmon (which biologists introduced to the reservoir a couple of years ago), two hybrid fish species—tiger muskie and wipers—now live in Jordanelle.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt thinks U.S. refiners are forced to blend too much ethanol into their gasoline.

If ever a federal program has outlived its usefulness, it’s the government’s support for ethanol.

In 2005, Congress passed the Energy Policy Act, creating the Renewable Fuel Standard. The RFS requires nearly all gasoline to be mixed with ethanol, which is mostly corn-based and increasingly includes other biofuels.
