Have drug companies been lying about their development costs to justify high prices?

You'd be forgiven for thinking so, given the media's portrayal of a new study published in the prestigious journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The study reaches a shocking conclusion -- it costs just $648 million to develop a cancer drug. The prevailing estimate, from Tufts University, is $2.7 billion.

In the spirit of the season, it's time for individuals, 55 and over, to share their wish list with Santa. I'm not talking about the personal gifts we hope to receive from family and friends, but the kind that city officials, tech innovators, health care professionals, housing developers, and appliance manufacturers and others could design for the aging world.

Weather predictions across the Midwest and the Atlantic areas will be above-normal snowfalls and below normal temperatures in regions. The Farmers' Almanac says the 2017-2018 season will be colder and wetter than last year's, especially in the East and Midwest. The most extreme winter weather brings big storms with heavy rain and snow to hit the Atlantic Seaboard on Jan. 20-23; Feb. 4-7 and 16-19; and March 1-3.

However, the Southeast and parts of Texas not so much. They expect milder conditions but in some parts, look for a few storms.

Entertainment is a priority for me, but spending money on it isn't. So, I'm on a mission to find low-cost ways to enjoy my free time, spend time with friends, and socialize. For seniors, its important for our health to get out of the house and make connections.
