Americans Hate Waiting, So They'll Despise Single Payer
By Sally C. Pipes

What makes for an awful trip to the doctor? Waiting.

Earlier this year, doctor-rating website Zocdoc found that long waits or appointment delays were the primary motivators of negative marks from patients.

Given this aversion to waiting, it's shocking that Americans are coming around to government-run, single-payer health care. Waiting is endemic to single-payer. The healthcare systems of countries all over the world prove as much.

November 14 - Energy Lessons from the Recent Hurricanes

By Merrill Matthews

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma killed dozens of Americans and caused tens of billions of dollars in property damage. But there's one silver lining. The storms taught us three invaluable lessons about the U.S. energy market.

We need more refineries scattered around the country. Harvey decimated the Gulf Coast, which accounts for about 55 percent of overall U.S. refining capacity. S&P Global Platts estimates that Harvey temporarily shut down five refineries and limited the output of 10 more.

November 13 - dAVE sAYS

Dear Dave,

Our son is about to graduate from law school. He took out a loan to cover the cost, but we’ve always been debt-free and have been paying on it to help him out while he finishes his studies. The balance on the loan right now is around $30,000. He has a job waiting for him after he graduates, so we’re thinking about telling him it will be his responsibility to finish paying off the loan at that point. Is that wrong?

There’s just nothing quite like Thanksgiving weekend: a morning prepping turkey and learning Grandma’s famous roll recipe, parades and football on the TV, dinner that tastes of nostalgia, long afternoon naps and . . . mad dashes to the mall.

In between eating and shopping, we’re sharing moments with family as we gather for what may be the first time in months. And better yet, we know Thanksgiving is just the start of the exciting season to come complete with gift-giving and more food!

Utah Has a Thriving Population of Wild Turkeys

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, many Utahns aren’t aware that they share their state with a thriving population of wild turkeys. Late November is a perfect time to get outside and see them.

Turkeys in Utah

Today, Utah’s turkey population numbers almost 25,000 wild birds. But that wasn’t always the case. In fact, until the 1950s, established turkey populations hadn’t been seen in Utah in 100 years or more.

Expand the Health Savings Account 'Safe Harbor' To Reduce Healthcare Costs
A. Mark Fendrick, MD and Rashna Soonavala

As the health reform debate continues, partisans in both parties should adhere to a simple, overarching principle: help people who were hurt by Obamacare, but don't hurt those who were helped by the law.

In other words, policymakers ought to focus on reducing the rising premiums and deductibles that have harmed millions while still preserving the coverage that's now guaranteed to people with pre-existing conditions.
