Lee to Host 2016 Utah Solutions Summit on Thursday

 

SALT LAKE CITY—On Thursday, September 1, at 8:00 a.m. MDT, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) will host the 2016 Utah Solutions Summit at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Speakers, including Utah Governor Gary Herbert, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, will discuss workforce and education issues at this year’s event.

MSHA issues call to safety to nation’s coal miners

ARLINGTON, Va. – Since October 2015, eight fatalities and more than 1,100 nonfatal accidents have occurred in the nation’s coal mines, resulting in restricted duty, missed days at work, and permanent disabilities for the miners who worked there.  While injury rates have been fairly consistent during this time period, records indicate a trend in accidents resulting in more serious injuries. The circumstances in at least 30 of the accidents might have led to fatalities.

SALT LAKE CITY (August 19, 2016) – After five years as the executive director of the Utah Department of Heritage and Arts, Julie Fisher will step down at the end of August to accept a management position at a global consulting firm. Prior to her service with Heritage and Arts, Fisher served four terms in the Utah House of Representatives.

LAWSUIT FILED TO UPHOLD RIGHT TO OBSERVE CONTROVERSIAL WILD HORSE STERILIZATION EXPERIMENTS FILED IN OREGON

PORTLAND, Oregon (August 15, 2016)  -  Two leading wild horse advocacy organizations today filed a lawsuit in Oregon U.S. District Court to uphold their First Amendment right to observe highly controversial and invasive sterilization experiments that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) intends to conduct on federally-protected wild horses at the agency’s Wild Horse Corral Facility in Hines, Oregon.
