Annexation—History in the Making

It seems almost natural to join the two communities of Willard and South Willard. Residents share educational systems, religious facilities and recreational venues. They even share part of the same name. So why are there questions and debate regarding whether to annex South Willard, the southern portion of Box Elder County, which is separated from the rest of unincorporated Box Elder County, into incorporated Willard City?

South Willard Water Changes

South Willard Water, a local private culinary water company, has new leadership.  New company president, Jayson Harames, replaced the former president, Richard Day, earlier this year.  Several shareholders noted that Mr. Day has an official capacity on the Bear River Water Conservancy District and suggested or knew of the suggestion that Mr. Day might have had a conflict of interest with the two responsibilities.  A long time shareholder remembered that in recent years, the president had begun receiving a salary.

Willard City may soon annex South Willard community in Box Elder County, a move that would almost double the size of the city population and land.

The Box Elder County Commission discussed the possibility of annexing South Willard into Willard City on May 7 during a public meeting. Since then, friends and neighbors have continued the debate.

“They’re all my favorites,” Williams said during a recent interview in the technology classroom. “All of them will go far.”

Willard City News: What Does The Constitution Say About Water Rights?

Water Rights

Since water use by private individuals and others is always a moving topic in our area, water rights and government involvement such as in South Willard at the present time are often discussed. South Willard is currently involved in some potential changes involving drinking water, and secondary water potentially involving government.  The Sentinel asked questions to see if there are any relationships between water, the Constitution, and government.
