Slow the watering -

Monday, July 1, 2019 - 10:30am

It's starting to get really HOT! Landscapes will be a bit thirstier than the past several weeks so be sure you have adjusted that smart-timer to its highest efficiency setting so it can be smart and water when your landscape needs it.

We need to talk. Usually, we like to make ya'll LOL! But today we really need to have a serious conversation. Don't worry- we're not breaking our ties with our aqua-humor or amazing gif replies and we're not leaving you to figure out your watering needs. We'll always do our best to be here for you. And in return, we need you to be here, care for and protect our Utah's water resources!

Now that summer is here- we're hot to trot and boating season is officially in full swing! Our sister Division's Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah State Parks & Recreation wanted us to remind you that if you boat at Lake Powell- you'll have some unwanted hitchhikers- Quagga Mussels. They are literally THE WORST!

Quaggas are an aquatic invasive species (AIS) that do nothing but wreak havoc on our beloved lakes & reservoirs. They damage our beloved recreational areas and can really cause serious issues to our water infrastructure that are not set up to handle these AIS.

You'll need to have extra patience as inspection points and/or decontamination stations are around the state and will be required for all boats. To help speed up the process pull all drain plugs and pump out ballast tanks prior to inspection. Thank our aqua-awesome DWR friends for keeping these pesky quaggas from spreading.

These hitchhikers will take a ride from anything- kayaks, paddleboards, floaties, etc. So you gotta do your part to prevent quaggas from getting to other bodies of water.

Before you can visit another reservoir, pond, lake or the like- you'll need to Clean, Drain and Dry. Visit that will give you all the info you need to know to keep these sneaky hitchhikers away.
