We are excited to begin our 2015 Regional “You Can Pay for College” Nights. We will begin each event with a 30 minute financial aid presentation, followed by a college fair. Keep in mind that these events are open to anyone who is interested in going to college, however, only 9th-12th
graders are eligible for the scholarships. Students and parents can attend any of UHEAA’s events to learn about paying for college and talk to representatives from Utah’s colleges & universities. Box Elder High School Choirs present: a Fall Choral Showcase! The concert will be held Tuesday, October 13that 7:00 PM in the BEHS Auditorium. There is no admission charge.
This fall’s lineup includes Concert Choir and Madrigals performing a set of National Anthems from different nations. There will be a special Barbershop Quartet performance of the Star Spangled Banner, made up of Casey Wood, student teacher Jaron Putnam, Nathan Bigler, and Jeff Bigler. Students in Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus will be premiering custom arrangements of disco tunes, written for them by Casey Wood, and will feature Casey at the keyboard. Concert Choir and Madrigals have also worked very hard to prepare “Stomp Your Foot,” a chorus from the opera The Tender Land by Aaron Copland.Madrigals were recently invited to perform for the National Convention of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, for which they prepared a program of historic music from the Mormon migration. They will reprise this set for the Fall Showcase. This will feature guitar by Jaron Putnam, and fiddling by Stephen Millsap. They have also prepared the “Hallelujah, Utah,” –another request from the SUP, and will present it as part of the concert/
All 11th-grade students will be enrolled in a SCHMOOP, ACT Prep Class, sometime between now and February to prepare them to take the ACT Test March 1. Students will be referred alphabetically during Bee Time for two weeks at a time. Remember: they can access the SCHMOOP Web site at home if additional practice is needed.
Students interested in participating in the 2016 Sterling Scholar Competition sponsored by Desert News and KSL Channel 5 need to get an application form from Mrs. Thompson in Room W4. The application is due Friday, November 6. No exceptions!
In the past few weeks there have been several incidents in Box Elder County involving a stranger approaching elementary age c hildren. This person is described as a male with a beard and is said to be driving a silver or gray 4 door car that has writing or stickers on the door. The person is said to have offered children candy to entice them to his car, or has told children that he had been sent to pick them up by their parents.We encourage parents to talk with their children and instruct them how to act if they are approached by a stranger. We also encourage all
students to report immediately any suspicious behavior that they witness.Local Police agencies are increasing patrols around schools, especially before and after school. Law enforcement encourages that you report anything suspicious to them.
At Box Elder High we have the following policies to help ensure your student's safety:
All students are required to check in and out of school through the office
Visitors are required to check in at the office
Teachers will not allow unidentified persons to have access to their classroom
We have a Brigham City police officer on staff and on campus
On-going safety training in faculty meetings
In addition, this year at BEHS we are locking additional outside doors to limit access to our students.
Any Senior or Junior student that is interested in joining any branch of the military after high school will want to take the ASVAB test. This is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery which the military will use to make acceptance and placement decisions. If you would like to take this test please come to the counseling office and sign up. There is no cost and there is no obligation to the military by taking this test. The exam will be given on October 20that Dale Young Community High School and will begin at 8:30am and will take approximately three hours. Students who sign up will be given a school excused absence for that time. You will want to arrive at Dale Young high school no later than 8:15am. If you have any questions please see Dave Smith in the counseling office.

Obligation to the Navy starts the first day of their sophomore year of college! A student can literally walk away the summer after their freshman year of college after trying it out and not owe the Navy time, or a dime. A "try it beforeyou buy it" if you will.
Boards have already begun and scholarships are getting awarded, however, it is not too late to start.
