The Science Department selected Sidney Walker as the Student of the Month. Sidney is the daughter of Kerry and Jenny Walker.

She has taken several engineering classes throughout her high school career including “Principles of Engineering” where she not only learned but mastered many hard concepts. She is also currently in physics class where she is not only excels but also helps other students understand the material. You can tell that she really does care about her classmates learning and is willing to go the extra mile in supporting others learning. Her willingness to tutor and help her classmates is one of her greatest strength. Sidney is also a shining example of a student-athlete, as she strives to be the best she can in and out of the classroom. Sidney plans to major in Physics Education in college, where she will enlighten future students just as much as she brightens our lives here at Box Elder.

Mikayla Edwards nominated as General Education April Student of the Month. Mikayla is the daughter of Kevin and Sara Edwards

Mikayla is a bright light in the classroom each and every day. She is dedicated to the students that she works with and is often found in the classroom during her breaks, lunch, assemblies, etc just wanting to help and to be with the kids. Mikayla goes above and beyond what is required for class and has many friendships with the students in the classroom that are genuine, unlike some peer tutors who are friendly with my students only during class hours. Mikayla is willing to help and do what is needed, no matter what the task. Mikayla can be trusted with getting the hard things done, even if it requires an effort that is above and beyond. I hope that she realizes the difference she makes in the classroom each day.

Jack Burlison was nominated for PE/Health April Student of the Month.  Jack is the son of Betsy Garza and Step-dad Eddy Garza.

When Jack started in Swim for Life class ---I was worried for his life.  Jack came to class during 1st Trimester not knowing how to swim.   Spent as much time in the pool watching him saving him as he sunk to the bottom.  He struggled to learn to float and the different swim strokes.   Every time he would surface he would have a smile on his face.   He didn’t give up!!  I watched him improve and excel in the water.  Jack once again came to class for the second time in 3rd Trimester. Jack was swimming and was not watching him and worrying about him as much or anymore.   Jack’s positive attitude and wanting to learn was better than I had seen.  When a lot of new swimmers would give up at this age ---not Jack he kept swimming!!
