Corben Chancellor   was nominated for CTE April Student of the Month.  Corben is the son Matthew and Danielle Checketts.

Corben took four classes last year that landed him in this spotlight, Digital Media IA, IB, 3D Graphics, and 3D Animation Corben was recruited  to be an FBLA officer because of his enthusiasm and talent in him that could be shared with an entire organization of business and information technology students. During the FBLA planning meeting this summer, the officer team suggested a fun prize wheel be used during sophomore orientation.  Making a spinning wheel was a concern—no one knew how to do it.  Corben volunteered to make the wheel. He followed through on that project and the wheel turned out amazing! The school district hired FBLA to film and edit the elementary teachers’ workshops during the summer.  Corben came in many days after school started in August to make sure the editing was completed and turned in on time. We could not have met our obligation to the district without his hard work, dedication, and skill.

For FBLA competition, he planned a movie, wrote the script, created a storyboard, filmed, and edited the movie that was to encourage students to join FBLA—he placed 9th overall.  It was amazing.  He stressed about his presentation to the judges.  His video was flawless—he wanted his presentation to be the same.  Again, his follow through was impressive.

Because of his video editing skill, Corben was asked by the Mr. Box Elder organizers to create a lip sync video.  I always worry about the timeline of getting a project with video done on time unless there is ample lead time.  Corben was given the video clips that were taken on a cell phone only 4 days before the event.  He was so unhappy he with the footage given him, he asked to re-film the scenes.  It didn’t matter that the purpose of the film was to be used in “fun”.  He knew it represented him and he wanted it to be the best.

He is dedicated, determined, passionate about life, friendly to everyone around him, and an asset to Box Elder High School.  He is MORE than just this month’s Student of the Month.

Kassidy Mote nominated for April CTE Student of the Month.  Kassidy is the daughter Travis and Kristin Mote

I have watched Kassidy excel in her CTE courses.  She enjoys working with plants and animals.  It’s especially appreciate that Kassidy will help those who might be struggling around her. Kassidy has great leadership skills with her peers and is excited when others are successful.    Her personality is such that she lifts others up to be better and improve.  She is not afraid to try new things and get in the dirt.  You have to love the fact that she takes what she is learning in the classroom or lab and then goes home to try it out.  It could be at her job or with her family.

Miguel Mendoza nominated for April Science Student of the Month.  Miguel is the son of Miguel A Medoza

He is respectful!  He is willing to help others without complaint EVEN if it means more work for himself!  He is kind!  He is humble!  He is focused!  He has a gift!  He has been blessed with a bright mind, and truly can become anything he wants to be!  He is a silent GIANT!

Throughout the trimesters, we never found Miguel to be late or off task at any point.  He has also had a huge role in the success of two of the foreign exchange students.  He has translated, taught, and befriended them.   He has helped them with labs, assignments, and make up work.  Never once did anyone ask him to do it, and he never made his classmates feel like they were a burden.  He never received extra credit or public recognition for his actions.  He did it because he is a good person and cares for others.

Deren Bott nominated for English/Language Arts for April Student of the Month.  Deren is the son of Ken and Heather Bott

Deren is a dedicated and hard-working student who not only expects the best from himself, but also is willing to share what he knows in order to help others.  This makes him a fantastic Language Arts student.  In Language Arts, so much of what we learn is from sharing and discussing the texts we read in class.  Deren always shares great ideas with the class and always takes our discussions to a deeper level of understanding.  He seeks to push himself to not just focus on the obvious, but to use inference skills to see and understand deeper meanings. Deren is also willing to help those around him who might be struggling to understand these deeper meanings.  Whenever he works in a group, Deren is always willing to share what he knows with the others in his group to help them see the deeper meaning and to understand what that brings to the assignment.  He is always patient and kind in these circumstances and helps his group gain a deeper understanding that before their discussion would have been puzzling to them.

Deren always turns in his very best work.  He pushes himself past what he already knows and works to gain something new from every assignment.  His desire to be the best student he can be is inspiring and is a quality much needed in our students.
