Emie Fisher - Business and Marketing Sterling Scholar

Emie Fisher, daughter of Jason Fisher and Elizabeth Fisher, has been nominated to be the Sterling Scholar Nominee for Business and Marketing for Box Elder High School.

Emie has excellent skill and ability in the business and marketing area. She has taken nine classes that are designed to focus in these exact areas. She prides herself in getting good grades in all classes. Emie has taken or is taking 20 AP, honors or concurrent courses. When looking for the right fit for the Sterling Scholar,  the student is assessed for aptitude overall, the aptitude for the subject, also  their attitude and the ability to make contributions.

Emie has great leadership abilities, her interest in “Leadership through Service” is very impressive. Emie is the secretary of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, and she has been able to hone her leadership skills while serving as the secretary of our local FBLA chapter.  She has also participated Hugh O-Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY), a leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experience.  She was also selected to represent Box Elder High School at Girls’ State, and she is an active member of the local chapter of the National Honor Society.

Emie has carved out the time to volunteer for service in the school and the community.  Her work as a tutor for Brigham City Library’s Stay-On-Track Literacy Program for two summers has made a difference in the lives of the youth in our community.  She has also helped with the Chamber of Commerce’s Play UnPlugged event, the Peach Days 10K race, and the high school senior citizen dinner.

 

Shawntae Lund - Dance Sterling Scholar

 Shawntae Lund is the daughter of the Todd and Lori Lund.  She is the Dance Sterling Scholar for Box Elder High School.

Through dance, she has been able to serve her community for years while she participated on the drill and cheerleading team.  Her involvement with student government has also given her many opportunities to serve others. She also has the opportunity to serve as Miss Peach Days this year, as she continues to give back to the community. She is a beautiful dancer and has had a passion for it her whole life.  Shawntae is a kind-hearted person and goes out of her way to make sure everyone has a friend.  Her bubbly personality makes her so much fun to be around as she positively influences those around her.

 

Shawntae stays very busy with her responsibilities in school, as student body president, and as Miss Peach Days.  Shawntae has maintained an excellent GPA and citizenship in her classes. Even when faced with difficult times, she still perseveres and achieves her goals. 

 

 

 Marisa Duke - Family and Consumer Science Sterling Scholar

Marisa Duke   is the daughter of Michael and Lisa Duke.  Marisa has been nominated to be Box Elder High School’s Family and Consumer Science Sterling Scholar Nominee.

She has taken a wide variety of FACS courses over the years even though her emphasis is in Culinary Arts/Cake Decorating.  She is currently serving as our FCCLA President.   Her membership and leadership experiences in FCCLA, the fact that she is a completer of a CTE pathway. She works hard at everything she pursues from her class work to her hobbies and talents, always keeping busy.  She is a highly motivated and well-rounded student.  She earns high grades and gets involved in extra activities offered through our classes and organizations.

 Marissa is a great example to her peers, sharing her knowledge with others. She has a great deal of excitement to learn new things. She has shown to be dependable and always wants to help, going so far as to put extra time in outside of class and organization meetings.

 

Mikayla E. Sepulveda - English Sterling Scholar

Mikayla E. Sepulveda is the daughter of Brooke Sepulveda and Joshua Sepulveda.  She has been chosen to represent Box Elder High School in English as the Sterling Scholar nominee.

Mikayla academically challenges herself by enrolling in advanced classes such as USU English 1010, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Comparative Government, and AP Calculus. She has taken the initiative and responsibility for her own learning.  She has a drive to do her best at all times by working hard in the class and outside of class. She has been a dedicated student at Box Elder High School, with high standard and great work ethics.

 

Mikayla participates in many activities at Box Elder High School including Academic Olympiad in which she was the team captain, a member of Ink and Quill Club, a committee member of the Teen Writers Conference where she helped plan workshop topics, PQ Academic Essay winner, officer in Key Club, director of “60 in 60” show, and a member of the National Honor Society.  She has participated in community service by being a volunteer at the Brigham City Library and a Book Fair volunteer at Lake View Elementary. 

 

 

 Katie Cronin - Instrumental Music Sterling Scholar

Katie Cronin is the daughter of Mark Cronin and Karen Cronin.  She has been chosen to be the Sterling Scholar to represent Box Elder High School in Instrumental Music. 

Katie has a variety of interests and exceptional ability.  She plays Varsity Tennis, is involved with Shop-with-a-Cop, trains puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, planning for the Brigham City Senior City Senior Ball, maintaining exceptional grades and is 1st attendant to Brigham City Peach Queen. 

Katie performs on the piano often.  She performs recitals and at nursing homes.  She also plays at festivals.  She comments that some of her favorite performances at the annual UHSAA Solo & Ensemble Festival.  It requires growth in technicality and maturity in her playing.  She always chooses a piece that will stretch her abilities.   She is always excited for that growth.

Katie has studied piano with Alannah Eaton and Jana Willes.   She looks forward to studying something in the medical field in college.
