Letter to the editor:
Washington, D. C., has a wonderful record of handing out freebies throughout the world. They are great experts in handing out other people's money--of course, making sure their own wants are completely satisfied.
Our founding fathers realized the impossibility of maintaining freedom unless those in charge are able to exercises self-restraint. And they gave to this government just enough power to serve. Just enough and no more. I believe we need to count the cost for our negligence in allowing public servants to have unlimited power. What a heritage we leave behind.
Senator Hatch as been very critical of another candidate who is running--claiming Mr. Liljenquist has recently opened up a business in the Philippines and says that this is un-American. but, Senator Hatch forgot to tell you about the jobs Mr. Liljenquist has created right here in the State of Utah, as well as many other places. I've never met MR. Liljenquist; he would have no idea who I am. But, Mr. Liljenquist and the Odekirk family shared a tragic experience. And you don't go through an experience like that without it having a great impact on your life. I would like to refresh your memory a little about this experience and the qualities that Mr. Liljenquist possesses.
Several top Utah families are in mourning after a plane crash Sunday August 28, 2008, in Guatemala--killing 11 people on a humanitarian mission. Liljenquist's survival was a million-to-one chance. These people were on a mission to help build a classroom in the impoverished Central American nation. Most came home in body bags. Taking time and modern means to even identify them. I feel without a doubt Mr. Liljenquist is alive today only by the grace of God and has a special mission to complete. I think it is time we stop trusting long time power-seeking politicians and see if we can find some true statesmen to lead this country.
