Pleasant View

Pleasant View - City Council Meeting Tuesday July 8th. 2014

Hello,

Founder's Day went well.  I had a lot of comments that folks enjoyed the parade, events, car show, salmon bake and the FIREWORKS.  I have had several people let me know that it was the best that they have seen in a long time (Even Mayor Taylor from North Ogden said we threw down the gauntlet).  Keep this in mind… The City put the fireworks show out to bid and we offered a 3 year contract and what used to cost the residents $25,000 only cost $20,000!!!  I love it when a plan comes together.

Hope of America Award

North Ogden—The Kiwanis Club has given out Hope of America Awards to sixth graders at 8 elementary schools—Kanesville, West Weber, Pioneer, Green Acres, Lomond View, Majestic, North Ogden and Valley. Fifty-four students, two 6th graders from each school, received the award of a certificate and a gift card during a school assembly to which parents and family were invited. Their teachers made the selection based on academics, citizenship, and leadership. Kiwanis members make the presentations at each school’s awards assembly in May.

Dr. Maria Montessori

Dr. Maria Montessori, born in 1870, was one of the first women in Italy to receive a medical degree. She worked in the fields of psychiatry, education, and anthropology. She believed each child is born with a unique potential to be revealed, rather than as a “blank slate” waiting to be written upon. Her main contributions to raising and educating children are:

·       Preparing the most natural and life-supporting environments for the child.

·       Observing the child living freely in this environment.

Pleasant View City Report

The City Council recently awarded Staker Parson Companies with their new parking lot projects since they were the lowest bidder. Staker Parson had recently helped with the project on 600 west and did a good job there. Areas included in the project are the main parking lot at Shady Lane Park and the City’s shop parking lot.

The Salt of the Earth

Pleasant View - Residents of Pleasant View and North Ogden have the opportunity to do some amazing community service thanks to the North Ogden Orchard. The orchard, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, produces peaches that are used to help out the Church welfare program and other humanitarian programs as well, both LDS and non-LDS. Seven stakes from the Pleasant View and North Ogden area are responsible for sending volunteers to the orchard to help prune, thin, and pick the peaches. Missionaries with the Church also help out at the orchard.

Staying Ahead of the Competition

Weber County - Over the past two years, Weber State University’s athletic program has shown the country just how amazing their athletes are with wins in the Big Sky Tournament for sports, such as men’s basketball, women’s soccer, cross country, and others. So what’s helping these athletes reach their potential and stay ahead of the competition? Part of it has to do with their new training facility located at Marquardt Field House, inside the Weber County Sports Complex next to the Dee Events Center.

Meet Representative Justin Fawson, House District 7

Pleasant View - Justin Fawson is the newest member of the Utah House of Representatives, appointed to replace Rep. Ryan Wilcox and represent House District 7 which includes North Ogden, Pleasant View and northern parts of Ogden. While only in office a few weeks, Representative Fawson isn’t new to the public service stage, having previously served on the North Ogden City Council. He sat down with a member of Sentinel News staff, and shared a little about his past service, his passion for freedom, and his commitment to his calling.
