Media Advisory: House District 58 Special Election 
 

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Republican Party will hold a special election to fill the House District 58 seat vacated by Representative Jon Cox. Representative Cox resigned from his legislative position after he was hired to become Governor Herbert's communications director. The special election will occur on Thursday, July 30th.

The time and location of the election will be determined shortly. An additional notice including that information will be sent out within the next week.

Gov. Herbert announces changes to senior staff

SALT LAKE CITY (July 8, 2015) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has named Jon Cox to his senior staff  as director of communication. Cox will take over for Marty Carpenter who is leaving the administration to begin working on the governor’s re-election campaign.

Climate activist Bill McKibben recently patted the environmental movement on the back for obstructing the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline, which would transport oil sands from Alberta, Canada (along with U.S. supply) to the Gulf. McKibben opined, "it's pretty amazing to see what happens when people organize."
