Book Review for October: October Sky and My Father’s Dragon

If you want to step into fall with a couple of adventurous books, look no further than these two right here: October Sky and My Father’s Dragon.  First, of all, why not read a book IN October that has the word October in the title?  Seems only fitting, right?

October Sky

October Sky takes you back to 1957, when the year of the Sputnik raced across the Appalachian sky, and the small town of Coalwood, West Virginia, was slowly dying.

Fire Safety: Every Second Counts!

Recently, I went with my two young boys and my husband to the 2018 Weber Fire District Open house held on October 10th. There, we learned all about fire safety, prevention, emergency response teams, and all about our local fire department. It was an awesome event!

This was our first time attending such an event. There was even a smoke maze to help kids navigate which way led to safety as they crawled on their hands and knees in the dark.  Of course, the smoke wasn’t really smoke but breathable air/fog created by machines.

10 Apps Teens are using that parents need to know

Too frequently Officers/EMS come upon a car wreck where the parent's are unconscious and there are children in the car who are too young to speak or communicate anything useful to the rescue team. ADVICE: Place a sticker on each child's car seat providing information that can help rescuers. Include: child's name & age, parent's names & phone number, emergency contact info, child's doctor, any medical issues and any medications, or any info you think would be helpful in a emergency. Please update this information as needed as well.

Boo! To You!

The air is crisp the nights are cool

The sounds of ghosts and hauntings rule

The witches cast their thorny spells

And scratch their noses with gangly nails

Monsters walk the neighborhood streets

Their arms outstretched—their armpits reek!

Black cats scatter and run amuck

When stormy skies and lightening struck

The moanings of the nearby graves

Cry out in anguish to be saved
