Living in Thanksgiving daily:  How would your life change if you chose to do just that? Perhaps you might be more aware of the simple blessings around you, such as hearing a bird sing or holding hands with someone you love while watching the sunrise. Of course, we are also given many freedoms in this country, such as being able to exercise the right to vote.

Coming soon for your entertainment at Weber High School is the amazing musical: Mary Poppins! If you haven’t bought your tickets, now is the time to do so!  You all may know the story of Mary Poppins--a whimsical nanny who soars into town on a mysterious breeze to 17 Cherry Street Lane, and changes the lives of those around her.  Everyday is filled with laughter, joy, and love. And every night is spent dancing on the rooftops of London.  Mary Poppins is magic—if you so believe!

If you haven’t met Sarah Calvert, a senior at Weber High School, you may want to go out of your way to do so!  This bright young woman is finding happiness in giving back to children, by way of a fairy tale story, The Rose Garden.  This book was written by Calvert herself, and its central focus is on kindness.  

With enthusiasm, Calvert tells us, “Kids think magical powers are so awesome and I really think kindness is the coolest magical power!  Every kid has it and I wanted to get that point across.”

Don’t raise kids to expect praise –raise them to expect that hard work pays off.  This two session-class introduces parents to the Growth Mindset principle and how to use it to help their children excel.  Psychologist, Carol Dweck, a Stanford University Professor and pioneering researcher in the field of motivation explains in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, “In a fixed mindset students believe their basic abilities, their intelligence, and their talents are fixed traits.  They have a certain amount and that’s that.” 

Capturing life’s moments in a bottle isn’t really possible-- but we wish it were, right? That way we could always lift the lid and memories would simply spill out!  OR- we can hire a family photographer to capture those moments—at least for a day!

What can you do in two minutes?  Maybe you could make toast, brush your teeth, and go check your mail. What if you only had two minutes to escape your house in the event of a fire?  That doesn’t seem long at all but according to the American Red Cross this is all the time you’ll have to get out to safety. During the midst of a fire an early warning from a working smoke detector might be the key to saving your life. In addition, a familiar fire escape plan, practiced regularly, can also save lives without causing extra panic.

General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is now over. However, the spiritual messages heard and felt will linger into the next 6 months until Conference comes again.  For many members, applying what they learned in Conference will build upon their testimonies and strengthen their everyday lives—drawing them closer to their Savior, Jesus Christ.  

   In my house growing up there was very little, if any, sugar. I remember only having soda pop on “special occasions,” Sugar Puffs Cereal on Sunday mornings and Spirulina when I was sick. Ughh!  My Mom was definitely a very healthy cook.

Autumn in Utah is full of color!  It’s also full of excitement as kids everywhere are giddy thinking about Halloween coming up and planning out their costumes. And, of course, jumping in a pile of leaves!  Meanwhile, parents everywhere are scouting out ways to entertain the whole family.  Never fear! There are plenty of activities to do this time of year including pumpkin picking, corn mazes, wagon rides—the list goes on.
