State Board Of Education Letter

Dear Fellow Board Members,

When I was a new hire at the Cache County Attorney's Office nearly two decades ago, Cache County Attorney Scott Wyatt told me something that I have never forgotten and that is we, as government employees, cannot pick and choose which laws, policies and rules we follow - we must follow them all. I have never forgotten that wise counsel and it has served me well through my personal and professional endeavors.

Getting to the Core of Common Core

Since the Common Core curriculum has been accepted and implemented throughout the State of Utah, there has been a lot of confusion about what Common Core is, how it affects Utah, who funded it and why it was implemented in the first place.

Common Core is a list of learning objectives that encourage teachers to help students find deeper meaning and engage them on more levels of learning in subjects such as mathematics, reading, and language arts.

UTOPIA Update

UTOPIA has almost become a dreaded word for council members of Brigham City as they try to deal with the very complex issues that have risen with trying to bring wonderfully fast fiber optic internet service to the residents of Brigham City. At first the appeal seemed too hard to pass up, fast cheap internet, everywhere? Why the possibilities were endless, tourists would flock to the small cities, businessmen would come in droves, why city coffers would be overflowing with abundance thanks to it.
