Utah GOP Sues over Count My Vote Compromise

The Utah Republican Party (UTGOP) is suing the State over the passing of SB 54, also known as the Count My Vote Compromise, citing the law violates portions of the Utah State Constitution.

S.B. 54 aimed to find a compromise between the current caucus/convention and a direct primary election. However, the UTGOP points out that the Constitution allows for individual parties to decide how to choose their own candidates.

This year, residents of Weber County will have the opportunity to vote on whether to continue the one-cent recreation tax that is used to fund recreation, arts, museums and parks, also known as “RAMP.”

RAMP receives one-cent for every $10 spent on recreation in Weber County. This is "anything fun," RAMP Staff Secretary, Shelly Halacy said, including going to the movies, bowling, etc.

The Utah Taxpayers Association has named Billy Hesterman as its new vice president. Hesterman comes to the association from the Daily Herald in Provo, UT where he was working as the political reporter covering the Utah Legislature. His first day at the Association will be Tuesday Sept. 30.

On Friday August 15th, Superintendent Menlove resigned his position with the Utah Board of Education. This follows the abrupt resignation of several other critical members in the last several months. Two days following his resignation, board member Terryl Warner voiced her concerns over the misuse of power, illegally-conducted closed sessions and the appointing of an interim superintendant without following proper procedure.

Thousands visit the LDS Ogden Temple Open House

Ogden, UT- In the center of the sprawling city  the spires of the LDS Ogden temple have been re-built and now stand ready receive close to 70,000 visitors. As of August 1, 2014, the temple welcomed all who wanted to go through its doors and gaze at the intricate artwork and learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This is a rare opportunity for non-members to step through the doors. After the building is dedicated the temple will be open only to members of the Church who are worthy.
