Willard City Gravel Pit Conveyor system, loading area and Weigh Station

Thursday, January 4, 2018 - 6:30pm

The Willard City Planning Commission is meeting on Thursday January 4, 2018 at 6:30 pm. The item of concern to many Willard Citizens is for a Conveyor system, loading area and Weigh Station within our city limits from a gravel pit in the county.

The gravel pit representatives will be asking our planning commission to amend the city general plan from Residential zoning to Commercial, so that they can transport, load, and weigh material within our city limits, from their pit in the county.

If you do not want such an operation within our City Limits, join with me and other concerned citizens and show up for this meeting on Thursday. If you do not get involved now, later may be too late. We need to make it clear to our planning commission that we do not want the area re-zoned (or even considered) for such an operation.

The best we can hope for at this meeting is for our planning commission to take a strong stand against this proposed change, and recommend to our city council not to allow it.

There will be a period before the formal meeting begins on Thursday, where citizens are given a couple minutes to express their views. However you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, your presence at the meeting says it all.

There will be a second important meeting in the future, when the city council votes to approve or disapprove any recommendations from the Planning commission. Again, citizens’ attendance at these meetings are crucial in making sure our representatives are representing us.

The gravel pit has been approved through the county, we can't do anything about that. And the owner says, if he can't have this conveyor belt and loading weigh station where he wants it, he will build a road and haul the gravel down anyway. Whether that road is down his proposed conveyor belt route or another direction, he will be moving loads of gravel to the highway. It's up to us to make sure however the gravel gets moved benefits Willard the most. What does that look like? I have no idea. But it needs to be safe for all who use the highway.

Wilard City Open House

Thursday, August 3, 2017 - 6:30pm

There will be an open house at Willard City Hall on Thursday August 3rd from 6:30 - 8:00 with the purpose to get input from and information out to the citizens of Willard.

The topics to be presented will be:

1. New Development, Doug Young and John Lewis will each have a booth

2. Gravel pits, Granite Construction will have a booth

3. Secondary Water. Pineview Water will have a booth

4. Lot size, there will be zoning maps to mark on and make comments

5. Trails, again maps to look at and make comments on

6. Water system up date and ideas and information.

Please come and put in your thoughts and become informed as to the options and costs of things moving forward.
