Senator Lee to Speak on Conservative's Anti-Cronyism Agenda

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) will speak on Wednesday, April 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET at The Heritage Foundation on the moral and economic imperative of rooting out cronyism, corporate welfare, and special-interest privilege from public policy. Senator Lee has recently expressed his opposition, on the Senate floor and in print, to reauthorizing the charter of the Export-Import Bank, as well as all other public policies that unfairly benefit favored special interests at the expense of everyone else.

Who: U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)

Topic: Opportunity, Cronyism and Conservative Reform: Restoring a Free Enterprise Economy Of, By, and For the People
When: Wednesday, April 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET

Scavenge Ogden for its rich heritage in the annual historic hunt

The public is invited to participate in the Ogden City Landmarks Commission’s annual Historic Scavenger Hunt as part of the activities for Historic Preservation Month.

The Scavenger Hunt is intended to increase awareness of the beautiful historic structures in Ogden. Whether participating as an individual, family or group it is a great opportunity to notice the rich architectural details of the structures that make up our community.

Scavenger Hunt contest entry forms (available at Ogden City’s website or at Ogden Municipal Building) show glimpses and provide clues of historic structures and participants are challenged to identify the structure name and/or address. This year the contest focuses exclusively on structures within the downtown area. A map is included on the entry form and identifies the contest boundary.

Contest entries must be returned by 5:00 p.m. on May 20 to Suite 140 at the Municipal Building. Winners will be announced at a fun-filled program on May 22 at DaVinci Academy located at the historic American Can complex at 2033 Lincoln Ave, beginning at 5:00 p.m. While all entries are eligible for drawing prizes, those with all correct answers will be eligible for a grand prize. Winners need not be present except for the grand prize.

Scavenger Hunt contest entries are available for pick up at the Ogden City Planning Department, room 140 and at the 2nd floor Information Desk at the Ogden Municipal Building (2549 Washington Blvd.).

WSU Shaw Gallery & Utah Film Festival present "Blood Brothers"

Rocky Braat, a young man from a fractured family and a troubled past, went traveling through India without a plan. Then he met a group of HIV positive children living in an orphanage — a meeting that changed everything for him.Rocky left his life, friends, and career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to live with the kids. Steve Hoover, his best friend and filmmaker, was unsettled and intrigued by this drastic action. In an effort to find out what compelled Rocky to give up every source of stability in his life, Hoover decided to trace Rocky’s story, following him to India. He witnessed Rocky and the kids endure disease, abject poverty, and death. But, strangest of all, in the midst of these troubles, he also saw their deep joy. And he came to understand why Rocky had given up everything he had to experience it. Blood Brother is a story of friendship. It’s a story of a life, stripped down to its essence. Most of all, it is a story about love, enduring in the face of death.

Egyptian Theatre Foundation presents "Touch of Evil"

The story of strangest vengeance ever planned. Shown the way it was meant to be seen, in 35mm restored version on the big screen. Considered by many to be the last "classic" noir film ever made, and perhaps the last masterwork from child prodigy Orson Welles. In "Touch of Evil" the "noirish" dark streets and shadows are darker than ever, practically swallowing up the soft tones like a murky swamp.

Mexican Narcotics officer Ramon Miguel 'Mike' Vargas has to interrupt his honeymoon on the Mexican-US border when an American building contractor is killed after someone places a bomb in his car. He's killed on the US side of the border but it's clear that the bomb was planted on the Mexican side. As a result, Vargas delays his return to Mexico City where he has been mounting a case against the Grandi family crime and narcotics syndicate. Police Captain Hank Quinlan is in charge on the US side and he soon has a suspect, a Mexican named Manolo Sanchez. Vargas is soon onto Quinlan and his Sergeant, Pete Menzies, when he catches them planting evidence to convict Sanchez. With his new American wife, Susie, safely tucked away in a hotel on the US side of the border - or so he thinks - he starts to review Quinlan's earlier cases. While concentrating on the corrupt policeman however, the Grandis have their own plans for Vargas and they start with his wife Susie.
