Egyptian Theatre Foundation presents "Touch of Evil"

The story of strangest vengeance ever planned. Shown the way it was meant to be seen, in 35mm restored version on the big screen. Considered by many to be the last "classic" noir film ever made, and perhaps the last masterwork from child prodigy Orson Welles. In "Touch of Evil" the "noirish" dark streets and shadows are darker than ever, practically swallowing up the soft tones like a murky swamp.

Mexican Narcotics officer Ramon Miguel 'Mike' Vargas has to interrupt his honeymoon on the Mexican-US border when an American building contractor is killed after someone places a bomb in his car. He's killed on the US side of the border but it's clear that the bomb was planted on the Mexican side. As a result, Vargas delays his return to Mexico City where he has been mounting a case against the Grandi family crime and narcotics syndicate. Police Captain Hank Quinlan is in charge on the US side and he soon has a suspect, a Mexican named Manolo Sanchez. Vargas is soon onto Quinlan and his Sergeant, Pete Menzies, when he catches them planting evidence to convict Sanchez. With his new American wife, Susie, safely tucked away in a hotel on the US side of the border - or so he thinks - he starts to review Quinlan's earlier cases. While concentrating on the corrupt policeman however, the Grandis have their own plans for Vargas and they start with his wife Susie.

Utah Renaissance Festival & Fantasy Faire

Friday, May 9, 2014 - 10:00pm to Sunday, May 25, 2014 - 8:00pm

 Utah Renaissance Festival & Fantasy Faire   2-4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 May 2014

3105 West Pioneer (400 North) Road, Marriott-Slaterville City, Utah.

History and Fantasy unite every year in May at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire in Marriott-Slaterville only 30 minutes from north Salt Lake City.

Here time stands still as myth and legend collide in a fanciful display of the Renaissance period interspersed with eccentric and whimsical elements of a time that never truly was.

As you step through the gates into Hawkhurst Village, Fairies float by on gossamer wings, Gypsies belly dance to the beat of a rhythmic drum, Pirates fiercely guard their treasures, Mermaids splash playfully in their own pool of water, Magicians perform amazing illusions, and in the distance you can see the Knights of Honor preparing for their jousting tournament that is to be presided over by the Royal Court and King Henry VIII. You'll also have the chance to wander through the Guild Encampment where you can visit with the Romans and Azure Rose.

Along the way you will be serenaded by roving minstrels and troubadours, and merchants of all types will entice you to view and purchase their wares: Colorful tapestries, handcrafted leather bracers and bracelets,  wooden toys on display, unique jewelry, pretty fascinators and handmade leather masks, hand glazed stoneware, and amazing treasures from all over the world. Over 100 merchants will be hawking their wares so you are sure to find something special!

Scattered throughout the grounds are many stages where you can stop and rest (even get a well-deserved massage) while listening to a story, or watching dancers, musicians, and comedic acts. Should hunger or thirst come upon you then you can find solace in the comfort of a cool drink or a plate of cheesy ribbon fries. Feeling adventurous? Then try a Turkey Leg or a Scotch Egg.

Stay a few hours or enjoy an entire day; tickets are only $12 for adults, and $6 for youth ages 6-12, 5 and under are free! Federal employees, seniors, military and adults in renaissance garb receive $2 off the ticket price! Parking is free of charge!

Proceeds from ticket sales goes to a local animal care organization, Pack'N Pounce.

Utah Renaissance Festival & Fantasy Faire

Take I 15, (from either North or South), and drive to Exit 346, turning off the freeway and driving West. Proceed for 1 1/2 miles to the festival site located at 3105 West Pioneer (400 North) Road, Marriott-Slaterville City, Utah.

Learning is fun at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire!

Children and students can meet characters and historical figures from the Renaissance period, participate in unique workshops, see artist and craft demonstrations, visit the animals at the petting zoo and enjoy an interactive treasure hunt!

In 2014 we will have 4 Fridays running from 10am to 6pm that would be perfect for your class field trip - all schools, including home-schools, are welcome to take advantage of this. Please contact us for booking and ticket information.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Celebrates International Migratory Bird Day

Saturday, May 10, 2014 - 8:09am

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is once again a proud sponsor of International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) and invites people to celebrate and support migratory bird conservation in their local communities and beyond. Initiated in 1993, IMBD was created to focus attention on the amazing journeys that some 350 bird species undertake between their nesting homes in the U.S. and Canada and non-breeding habitats in Latin America.

This year the IMBD theme is “Why Birds Matter”. IMBD aims to increase awareness of the diversity of birds around the world, the amazing migrations some take, and the phenomenal range of behaviors, plumages, and songs they exhibit. International Migratory Bird Day 2014 shares the many ways in which birds matter to the earth, to ecosystems, and of course, to us.

“We are proud to be celebrating International Migratory Bird Day with our partners and encourage everyone to participate in the festivities or simply bird watch. National Wildlife Refuges, most of which were established to protect wild places for birds, are great places for people to observe the diversity of migratory bird species,” said Clint Riley, Mountain-Prairie Assistant Regional Director for Migratory Birds and Special Programs.

Although International Migratory Bird day is typically held on the second Saturday in May (May 10 in 2014) any day can be a day to celebrate migratory birds. There are a number of events across the country conducted by the Service’s conservation partners aimed at connecting people with migratory birds. For a list of opportunities to join the celebration and additional information about IMBD, please visit: http://www.fws.gov/birds/imbd/.  To locate the nearest National Wildlife Refuge, please visit: http://www.fws.gov/refuges/refugelocatormaps/.

The cornerstone of migratory bird conservation, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act will celebrate its Centennial in 2016.  Enacted in 1916, the Act served to implement treaties with Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Russia to protect migratory birds.  Currently there are over 1,000 species protected by the MBTA.  More details about the Centennial celebration will be announced in the coming months.

The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. We are both a leader and trusted partner in fish and wildlife conservation, known for our scientific excellence, stewardship of lands and natural resources, dedicated professionals, and commitment to public service.
