TTake a Knee for America

Colin Kaepernick brought the NFL to its knees.  Literally.  Ratings are down, television viewership is down, game attendance is down.  Criticism is widespread.  NFL product sales are down, except maybe for Kaepernick’s jersey, and that is even more indicative of the disturbingly confused state of the collective mind to which America has evolved.

Shooter

26 years old, dishonorable discharge, beat his wife and child, year in the brig.  That’s a profile.  And those were the words I was looking for as I watched this abomination in Texas unfold, trying to begin to understand, again, what kind of a person would do this kind of thing.    

High speed car chase, killed himself.  The end.  Until it happens again.

“The Redcoats are coming!”  

They’re actually here already.  I don’t know if the “Reds”, the Russians, actually wear red coats like our British brothers in arms once did, but yes, they are here already, the Russians.  Maybe not in our hearts, but definitely in our minds.

I have no fear of goblins, witches, or evil clowns lurking on Halloween.
What really scares me is the meat industry.

This is the industry that deprives, mutilates, cages, then butchers
billions of cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens - animals who feel joy,
affection, sadness, and pain, as we do…that  exposes undocumented
workers to chronic workplace injuries at slave wages, and exploits
farmers and ranchers by dictating market prices…

America Between A Rock and A Hard Place

The Rock is our American history, its triumphs and failures.  The Hard Place is America’s future, its resolve.  The Between is President Donald J. Trump and the pivotal backwash of confusion that lay in his wake.
