Opinion

Dear Editor:

Please ignore anything that our "President" say or tweets. His racist, bigoted, ignorant opinion DOES NOT REPRESENT HOW 75% of Americans feel. His "white supremacist" views come from his "Aryan" mentality, which he has apparently inherited from his father and ancestors. The rest of us treasure all people of all races, genders, religions, and nationalities. Americans may be militarily and economically powerful, but that doesn't make us better or superior or more entitled.

Many Americans think that immigrants are “taking away our jobs”.  This mantra unfortunately falls in line with the broad stroke myth and prejudicial generalizations that these “illegals” are mostly thieves, drug dealers, murderers and rapists.  Many Americans, including our president, want to build walls to keep them out.

A Year of President Trump and Our Five Stages of Grief

You know the drill.  Denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.  We’ve all been there.  As much as we love to hate him and hate to love him, he’s our president for better or worse, and let’s hope it doesn’t get much worse as we turn the corner in 2018.

Dear Editor:

Dear Editor,

The Trump administration ruled on Friday that animals raised for food under the “USDA Organic” label need not be treated any less cruelly than those in conventional farming. The decision reverses years of U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, which held that the "organic" label should impose minimal ethical, health, and environmental standards. For the animals, this included adequate space, light, and access to the outdoors.

Taxing What Hurts Us

Dear Editor,

With Congressional Republicans rushing to place a new tax bill on President's Trump's desk before Christmas, here comes the respected British publication The Guardian suggesting a new source of tax revenue - meat. Yes, a tax on meat, to beat the health and climate crises.

The concept is hardly radical. We already pay taxes on tobacco, alcohol, sugary sodas, plastic bags, and other consumables that afflict the public health and other social costs.
