Why Mormons Don’t Drink Coffee

Why Mormons Don’t Drink Coffee

There’s a joke going around about Mormon missionaries these days: How many missionaries does it take to convert a Jew?  Answer:  It’s a trick question.  Mormons are Jews.  Technically.

Do Farm Animals Merit our Compassion and Respect

Do Farm Animals Merit our Compassion and Respect?

Dear Editor,

We are a nation of special observances. There is even a World Day for
Farm Animals, observed on October 2nd (Gandhi's birthday). Apparently
it’s intended to memorialize the tens of billions of animals abused and
killed for food.

Is Constitution Day personal to you? It is for these 5 people.

Have you ever had to stand up for something you believed in or had to stare down a bully? My parents did once and that experience shaped our family narrative. It made the Constitution feel intensely personal and very dear to us, but we are not the only ones. We want to share stories of five others who have inspired us with their love and knowledge of the Constitution and ask you to do the same. What does the Constitution mean to you? It seems like a perfect day to reflect. This article features 5 individual stories of people for whom Constitution Day really matters.

Dear Editor:

Dear Editor,

Imagine how terrified the more than 300,000 chickens who were recently burned alive in a fire at Fassio Egg Farms in Tooele County, Utah, must have been. They were trapped in a barn, unable to escape. All they could do was watch the flames approach.

While it’s too late to save these chickens, there is a way to help other sentient birds like them: Go vegan.

Dear Editor:

Congress is back in Washington with a mere 12 legislative days to meet a number of deadlines before the end of the fiscal year on September 30th.

With multiple deadlines looming and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, pressure is on Congress to take swift action. This month presents Congress with several opportunities to show it can effectively govern while producing conservative results.

Back to School Food Dear Editor:

Back to School Food

Dear Editor:

With the new school year upon us, parents turn their attention to school
clothes, school supplies, and school food. Yes, school food!

More than 31 million children rely on school meals for their daily
nutrition, which too often consists of highly processed food laden with
saturated fat. Not surprisingly, one-third of our children have become
overweight or obese. Their early dietary flaws become lifelong
addictions, raising their risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Race Issue Not Always Black And White

Race Issue Not Always Black And White

It’s complicated.  The issue, that is.  Basically, it’s real simple, we’re all God’s children.  Period.  We all share the same planet, breathe the same air.  Why rock the boat?  We have bigger fish to fry.

Misunderstanding Media

Misunderstanding Media

Marshall McLuhan wrote ‘Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man’ in 1964.  He was way ahead of his time.  It was and still is a definitive look at how mass media effects and influences us and why.  It influenced me to adjust my career track.  Most people associate McLuhan with the phrase “The medium is the message” which is often mistaken as the title of the book.  It was a chapter in the book.
