Higher Energy Costs Will Put an Unfair Burden on Utah Families.

Higher Energy Costs Will Put an Unfair Burden on Utah Families.

By Dr. Charles Steele, Jr.

As the President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), I frequently travel throughout the U.S.  And in my journeys, I’m quite often struck by the fact that so many families are struggling to find financial security.  I find it troubling that hardworking Americans are often eking out a living, barely making it from paycheck to paycheck.

The Costliest EPA Rule Yet

The Costliest EPA Rule Yet
By Margo Thorning

A new proposal from the Environmental Protection Agency has already forced four major industrial projects worth $7 billion in new investment in the Baton Rouge area to be put on hold or redirected elsewhere. These potential investments would have collectively contributed $86 million in wages annually to the local economy and created 2,000 jobs.

Tell the EPA: First Do No Harm

New Regulations for “Clean Power” Disproportionately Hurt Poor and Minority Communities

By Dr. Charles Steele, Jr.

You’ve probably heard the familiar oath: “First, do no harm.”  It’s the pledge doctors are obliged to follow when treating an illness or injury.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR COTA is Saving Kids' Lives

April 2015

Dear Editor:

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) was founded in 1986 when residents of Bloomington, Indiana, rallied around a toddler who needed a life-saving liver transplant.  In less than eight weeks, the community raised $100,000 to place the boy on the organ waiting list.  But the child died before an organ became available.  Those community volunteers, along with his parents, turned tragedy into triumph by using the funds they raised to help other transplant families. That was the beginning of COTA.

Obama Turns His Back on the Middle Class with New Methane Emissions Regulations
By Drew Johnson

In his State of the Union, President Barack Obama called on Congress to practice "middle-class economics," by "unleashing new jobs," "helping working families" and "building the most competitive economy anywhere."

American as apple pie?

You would think that the right to work would be as American as apple pie, but several months ago I had a different experience – right here in Northern Utah. I had begun the process of building a new home. As part of the building permit process I was required to sign a document in front of a public notary promising that I would not hire anyone who was not a licensed contractor, unless the compensation to them was only a gift or token payment such as to a family member. I’ll admit I was quite taken back by this bold ascertation of who I could employ.
