Modern Schooling on a Shoe-String Budget
By Alan Shusterman

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan recently vowed to invest nearly all of their fortune -- a staggering $45 billion -- in philanthropic causes over the rest of their lifetimes.

They highlighted education -- personalized learning in particular -- as a key area of focus. That's great news. Their money, however, isn't even necessary to provide the changes desperately needed in K-12 education in this country.

Take the Renewable Fuel Standard Down to Zero
By Wayne Winegarden

The Environmental Protection Agency recently issued new rules dictating that 18 billion gallons of biofuels must be blended into America's 2016 transportation fuel supply. This mandate, known as the Renewable Fuel Standard, has been a disaster for the country. The only sensible minimum renewable fuel mandate is zero.

The RFS was created in 2005 to curtail greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the use of fossil fuels. However, the RFS is not defensible based on its impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

New Year’s Resolution

Dear Editor,

Once again, it's time for New Year's resolutions, particularly those to
improve our diet and exercise routine.

Although gun violence and traffic accidents remain the leading causes of
death among young people, the most dangerous weapon for the rest of us
is still our fork. Well over a million of us are killed each year by
high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other
chronic diseases linked to our meat-based diet.

Dear Editor -

Of course all Churches must support the view of religious tolerance. The problem our nation faces though is that Islam is not purely a religion. It is also a political philosophy that calls for the domination (submission) of the whole world to their viewpoint (Sharia Law).

Their own book, the Koran, calls for the annihilation (death) of those who oppose this plan. Some immigrants do not seek assimilation, but to overtake and dominate. That makes the choice of allowing in Muslim immigrants much more complicated. We need to proceed with caution.

Squandered Resources on College Education

Most college students do not belong in college. I am not by myself in this assessment. Washington Post columnist Robert Samuelson said, "It's time to drop the college-for-all crusade," adding that "the college-for-all crusade has outlived its usefulness." Richard Vedder, professor emeritus of economics at Ohio University, reports that "the U.S. Labor Department says the majority of new American jobs over the next decade do not need a college degree.

Patients, Not Insurers, Should Determine What a Life is Worth
By Robert Goldberg

How much is a life worth?

According to Vice President Biden, who lost his son Beau to brain cancer, quite a lot. In telling the country he wouldn't run for president. Mr. Biden pledged to push for a moonshot program to cure cancer because, he said, there's nothing more important.

Can We Learn From Europe?

Can We Learn From Europe?

Dear Editor - States Do have the Right to Refuse Refugees... Contrary to What President is Saying

Barry Soetoro (aka Obama) is saying the States cannot refuse to accept Syrian Refugees. But that is patently false. The States do have the right to refuse resettlement of any refugees or immigrants within their borders.

States of the United States of America are sovereign "over" the federal government... something many people have forgotten or do not understand. The States created the USA not the other way around. And they have the right to tell the feds to take a hike where appropriate!

Oily Behavior: U.S. Pushes Iran Deal, Rejects Canada's Oil
By Paul Chevalier

When terrorists struck America 14 years ago, Canada had our back. At a moment's notice, Prime Minister Jean Chretien fortified our shared border and safely ushered hundreds of planes into Canadian airports.

Today, though, the United States is turning its back on Canada.
